This is Will the day before his follow up visit with the surgeon over at his brother's house for an Easter get together (that post will come later this week).
Monday Will and I went to the follow up visit with the surgeon and they took his sling off, then his hard plastic splint and then began cutting this padding stuff.
It sticks to your skin obviously. His elbow was very tender because he wasn't able to bend it for almost 3 weeks.
She tried being careful but it all looked painful.
Still peeling the fuzz off
There it is the incision where he had 8 very large stitches. The picture below is before the doctor came and started pulling them out which was extremely painful. Poor Will about after the sixth one got all pale and almost past out...he was sitting on the table and started tipping over and the doctor helped lay completely over on the table so thank goodness he wasn't standing. It made me sick to my stomach so I couldn't watch.
Viola stitches are out! They were totally shocked that he didn't have more bruising but it is because his skin is so thick that it doesn't show. If you compare it to his other arm it is bruised but not like most people bruise.
Now after lying down for a few minutes and regaining his color we saw the X-rays. It was Will's first time to see all of the metal in his arm and wrist. The metal plate is about 4-5 inches long and at least 1-1.5 inches wide or at least it looks like from my perspective. He has about 12-18 metal pins in there and a few screws. The doctor said he will probably need another surgery and that he still has some fractured bones in there but that it was the best they could do. Due to the complexity he required assistance from another surgeon and they used double the amount of metal than they had anticipated and it was according to the surgeon ranked in the top 3 of worst breaks he has ever operated on. "It is so busted up in there it was just crazy!" The doctor said wash up your arm, we will put a cast on you and I'll see you in 4 weeks. I asked him what the prognosis was and he said it is going to be weeks and weeks and at least one more surgery before we can speculate that.
Will finally getting to get his arm wet. It's been driving him crazy to not be able to itch it, use it, move it etc and most of shower!!! He has to wrap it with a couple of towels then double trash bag it and tie it up tight.
This is what he left in a short arm and wrist cast and his sling. His fingers are still swollen and his elbow is sore but he is thrilled to have the option of straightening out his elbow now. Poor guy has really been a trooper through all of this and never complains.
He had the kids signed their names on his cast the underneath, they thought that was awesome! :O)

So glad he is on the recoving side of things! My brother-in-law broke his arm yesterday... I guess his is pretty bad too. The ER sent him home and told him they couldn't do anything for him and to call an orthopedic surgeon today... It looks like he is headed down the same road as your hubby! :*(
Poor Will, What a trooper!!!
Yikes...well, at least he's starting to somewhat recover. That's going to leave a nasty scar. Good job taking care of him Leslie!
