Will's Surgery is Scheduled finally...

After having to be referred to orthopedic surgeon after orthopedic surgeon to get a wrist/hand specialist Will was finally seen by 2 doctors today. His surgery is scheduled for this Thursday, April 2, 2009. It will require a metal plate, screws & rods because it is so damaged, crushed and basically destroyed. The poor guy has been such a trooper with very little complaint but you can seen the extreme pain in his face and by the paleness in his skin. His arm is still very swollen and has some bruising. The doctors said that he may require more than one surgery, physical therapy with no guarantee of mobility and telling him he will likely have arthritis & chronic pain from this injury. The doctor's couldn't believe the hospital didn't cast it right away either!

My version as I understand it best....So on Tuesday 3/24/09 Will not only broke his wrist both bones from his arm that connect to his hand but he shattered them and they had a mushroom effect as well as his hand being shoved down into his arm. He went to the hospital in Tucson where he was and they did X-rays and told him he needs to see an orthopedic surgeon when the swelling goes down gave him some vicadin, wrapped his arm/wrist/hand, put a splint on it and gave him a sling and sent him on his way. Two days later his shattered wrist is causing a lot of pain. I feel so bad for him! Heis still trying to work which is very difficult & painful.

For those of you that are curious how this happened, I'll explain.....he went to Tucson with his buddy who happens to own a car dealership in Mesa. They went to an auction to look at cars & travel camp trailers. Carson went to look at cars and Will went to look at trailers. Will says that the floors in the trailers were very greasy and slick but he had on his Sketchers with good tread so no problem well after the third or so trailer he said he was ducking down to exit and all he can think is that the cleaning solution used on the floors which made them very slippery combined with ducking down out of a small door and dusty steps were as slick as ice and he slipped right off and landed on his left wrist and knees. This is totally shocking because for the 13 years I've known Will he has NEVER even come close to tripping, falling or slipping ever! I think I trip and fall enough for the entire family and my name should be graceful but not Will! He is just very steady on his feet and has excellent balance almost freaky steadiness....maybe it was all of the years installing commerical glass up 30-40 feet in the air?!? :o) Anyways he says he can't even explain it just very slick greasy cleaning solution and dusty steps.

The auction place took his name and phone number but have not contacted him yet. The first day he was in pain but the second and now third day the pain has steadily increased! His entire arm is immobile and he is having a lot of trouble sleeping and doing daily normal things even getting dressed as to be expected. Will is not one to complain at all so for him to mention that it hurts and hurts really bad...I know it's serious pain. The vicadin barely takes the edge off he says. He is going to call a surgeon tomorrow but is waiting for a referral....who knows when the surgery might be but hopefully soon because I don't know how much longer I can watch him suffer. He seems to be fairly pale and very quiet. His hand is extremely stiff and he can't move his fingers very well due to swelling and soreness. We have to unwrap it to ice it which is painful. I don't think I could be a nurse I'm clumsy and hate hurting people!

This is him tonight after taking a vicadin we unwrapped it and put it on ice. It is still pretty swollen...poor guy!

Spring Break & pc training for my Mom

So now that my Mom is no longer working at her clinic (due to her neck and back) she is going to be bored so while she was here we decided that she should get some computer training. She wanted to pimp her Facebook profile and add some pics so we did that....then she said show me how you blog. Magical words I'll never forget! :o) So we created a blog for her and I gave her a whole day of training on how to create a post and add pictures. Unfortunately while she was here she had a migraine for 3 or 4 days and some difficulty walking that only got worse upon arriving home in Utah. She has continued to get worse and has a lot of numbing in her legs & feet so she had to have a MRI and the doctor thinks she has another disk that needs to be replaced with metal...on top of that she got a stomach virus that poor Kyah and Adia had. So although she had some pc training and now has a blog she's been sick in bed and unable to post her own story as of yet but I still have faith that she will as soon as she is able. :o) I sure hope she feels better soon.

So last night at about 11pm we were trying to go to bed but Will kept on talking to us and showing us stuff etc and so finally about 11:45pm I said I'm sorry but I can't stay up another minute well about 10 minutes later when I was brushing my teeth I hear some commotion and shockingly enough it's Brandy my sister and her two little girls Adia & Kyah!!! Mom & I about had a heart attack because we had talked to her earlier in the day and had no idea she was coming.

It's so great to have them here!!! Brandy had called Will yesterday afternoon and told him but he didn't spill the beans. So last night as he was getting a text message after 11pm I asked him who is texting you this late and he said oh you don't know them and I said so who is she...your girlfriend and he just laughed....it was my sister getting directions!!! :o)

Anyways we are thrilled to have them here til Sunday when they all head back to Utah. We won't be going anywhere except to Mesa & maybe the Phoenix Zoo. :o) No Springerville trips but anyone's welcome to come here. :o)

Mom's coming to town!

I'm feeling so much better today almost back to normal! I'm so excited because tomorrow we pick up my Mom from the airport for 8 days! I have vacation all next week and the kids are out for Spring Break! Yippee

We've not set up any plans to go up North to visit family but it might happen. Visitors are welcome here!!! We have a few dental appointments scheduled next week but that is it. Let us know if you want to meet up in Mesa or if you want to come and hang out! I'll post again to let you now if we head to Springerville or not. :o)

Tuesday Blues

So this is me....sick for the past several days! (The real me right now is way too scary looking)

I had a sore throat last week but kept telling myself as I loaded up on the vitamins that I was fine just double up on orange juice etc. Well my throat got worse and worse. I had Will look at it and he said it wasn't strep so I thought toughen up wimp! Friday night it hurt pretty bad and Saturday I pretty much lost my voice but kept on going and taking the vitamins etc. Saturday night I got the whole fever thing and unable to breath very well. Sunday I missed church I couldn't expose the little 2 year olds plus I couldn't speak at all. Sweet McKenna fasted for me on Sunday until 4pm! What a trooper! Calvin & Chloe stayed home to take care of me on Sunday which was sweet too. Monday morning a day before payroll is due to the county I thought well if I get up and get all ready, put my face on, fix my hair I can sit and enter time sheets all day...nope I only lasted an hour at work. Came home took some naps and began the medication Advair inhaler as well as Mucinex and continued taking Levaquin an antibiotic. Unfortunately Will said he had a sore throat and took some Levaquin last night too. I had mentioned to him earlier to please give me a blessing, as I laid down last night to go to bed I realized that I didn't get a blessing but didn't want to wake him as he was laying down with Calvin in his room but about 10 minutes later he came in our room and said he had better give me a blessing before he lost his voice. Great minds think alike. :O) Although I had a blessing I still had a rough night with all of the symptoms, meds wearing off, aches etc. so I didn't make it into work today. I woke up the family and then went back to bed. As I thought about why I might be sick despite that I have a very low immune system due to taking antibiotics for 8.5 years straight I also realized that since the day after Valentines I've been eating 50% off chocolates non-stop. Maybe if I ate healthy foods like these from my Mom's garden I would have avoided it! I haven't had any healthy food and have been going to bed super late every night and getting up early, skipping lunch, not exercising and simply not taking very good care of myself! So I'm going to start eating more fruits & veggies & salads and boost my immune system!!!! The moral of this long drawn out story is...................
So our family is going to grow a garden like Grammy's pictured below.

Doesn't help to be sick in bed when my pretty Mom is coming on Saturday to stay for a week....I need to be doing laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping etc. We have no perishable food in the house except milk. I'm so excited that she is coming and hope that no one is sick when she arrives. The kids have spring break next week and I have a week of vacation!!!

Nothing like our yard that is now filled with more dried out weeds that I was hoping to get all cleared out to at least have dirt instead of all weeds before she comes. If Will gets sick he won't be able to clean it up! (by the way my Mom hates weeds)

Well I better go take some medicine and lay down for a bit. I'm going to be keep thinking positive and praying that Brandy has some pitty on us to come down and visit and maybe I'll take a nap so I can wake up healed from this dumb bronchitis today!!! :o)
